On November 20, 2018, Business Administration first year students in the Junior A class worked with Kris Trotter and I to organize an event called: “WHAT”S FOR LUNCH?” This was an experiential opportunity to engage students and staff at NBCC to think more deeply about food security/food insecurity. For $10, guests purchased a ticket for lunch with a guaranteed a drink and dessert! However, guests did not know what they would get for lunch. At each table of 8, one received a delicious roast chicken dinner, 6 people got a nice sandwich wrap meal, and one person got Kraft Dinner. We hoped this experience would give us all a better understanding about the gap in economic levels in our area.
Students helped create marketing, sold tickets, and coordinated the event. In the end, we raised $300 for the student emergency fund and students got to experience real world marketing, event planning and event logistics first hand.
